Cope With Pain-Parts 1 & 2by Stephen R. Levitt, MD, PhD |
|
A three hour audio educational program (MP3 format compatible with both PC and MAC) written and narrated by an expert in the field and created for patients with chronic or recurrent pain. A number of years ago, Pain Resource Center produced an audiotape course to teach the essentials for understanding chronic pain and what decisions and actions could be taken by patients with chronic pain to help them better manage this complex problem. Over the years, the information in this course has been used by thousands of chronic pain patients. While the field of chronic pain treatment has progressed in many ways over the years since this program was originally written, the core essentials of this program remain highly relevant today. With this in mind, a decision was made to digitize the original program and make it available as a download for those with chronic pain who now have internet access. This course can help reduce confusion and frustration, improve self-reliance and doctor-patient communication, and lead to a higher quality of life while living with chronic pain. Author: Since 1979 Stephen R. Levitt, MD, PhD has been a leading researcher and clinician in the field of pain education, evaluation and management. In addition to many scientific publications in the clinical literature, Dr. Levitt authored the highly successful 7 ½ hour audio training course for clinicians entitled “The Chronic Pain Patient: Theory, Evaluation and Treatment.” Dr. Levitt helped develop the widely used computerized evaluation and management tools for pain, including The Chronic Pain Battery™ and The TMJ Scale.™ From 1979 to 1998 Dr. Levitt was a clinical faculty member at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. He served as Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry and for 18 years was psychiatric consultant to the UNC Clinical Pain Program. His years of experience in trying to help patients with chronic pain are reflected in this course. Dr. Levitt is a former member of the American Pain Society and the International Association for the Study of Pain. In addition to private practice, research and authorship, over the years Dr. Levitt has served as consultant to clinicians in many fields including medicine, dentistry and psychology. |
